In his plea for assistance, actor Adewale Adebiosu laments, "I was once paid N3,000 for 11 scenes in a movie."
This comes after actress Jaiye Kuti criticized veteran Nollywood actors for internet beggarly. Veterans like Iya Gbonkan, Lalude, Pariolodo, and Alapinni have all turned out in recent weeks to ask Nigerians for assistance with their worsening financial situation. Jaiye Kuti bemoaned the prevalence of Nollywood veterans pleading for assistance online due to their worsening financial and physical circumstances. The actress bemoaned the worrisome rate at which their plea for assistance is tarnishing the reputation of the Yoruba film business. Many of them, according to Jaiye Kuti, did not make any plans for the future. Instead, they wasted their youth on fleeting pleasures.
She noted, however, that while she is not opposed to raising money for medical difficulties, she is opposed to the Yoruba film industry's reputation being damaged by crying out for basic necessities. The actress received mixed feedback for speaking the truth in the video, with some praising her for doing so while others criticizing her for doing so about her more senior coworkers.
Similar to this, English actor Kenneth Aguba made news last year after it was discovered that he was homeless. Kenneth Aguba made an astonishing revelation about the pittance he received for his movie appearances while speaking up about his homelessness. Kenneth Aguba alleged that he was forced to suffer while being paid N5000 at a filming location. They simply don't want to pay me, therefore I suffer. They took my money and underpaid me; they gave me 5000 while claiming to be paying me. But Nigerians gave the actor a lot of support, and we hope they will do the same for Iya Gbonkan.
