Due to a video showing Seun Kuti physically beating a Nigerian police officer on Saturday, Seun Kuti trended across all social media platforms. Seun Kuti was seen arguing with a police officer at the Third Mainland Bridge in the widely shared video. Seun Kuti said that the policeman planned to kill him and his family in a statement posted on his Instagram story. The late Fela Kuti's son claimed to have proof of it, but he isn't one to pursue power. He continued by saying that after receiving an apology from the policeman, he decided not to file a complaint.

Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, issued an arrest warrant for him hours after the video went viral. The IG further mandated a prompt and thorough investigation into the immediate and underlying cause(s) of the alleged attack as well as the prosecution of the suspect in accordance with the findings. Seun Kuti announced on his Instagram story that he welcomed the probe and would cooperate fully. Additionally, he prayed to the IG for the indictment of the wrongdoer. Later, the singer was taken into custody and appeared in court, but was released on bond.
