"AY hung up on me; there is more to Basketmouth and AY's feud." Julius Agwu, a comedian, weighs in

Julius Agwu, a top comedian in Nigeria, has commented on the ongoing feud between Basketmouth and Ayo Makun. Julius Agwu asserted that he thinks their dispute is more complicated in an interview with the radio station Naija 102 FM. He asserts that he disagrees with AY's assertion that their disagreement is related to a sum of N30,000. For him, there might have been something else that took on behind the scenes that irritated Basketmouth but about which he is keeping quiet. Julius Agwu described how AY hung up on him when he sought to complain to him about their collision occurrence in another section of the interview. Every year on Easter Sunday, Julius Agwu performs, clashing with AY Makun's Sunday Easter concert in Lagos.

“I don’t think it’s only N30,000. Maybe there is more. It seems like there is something that is making them angry and they are holding unto but they can’t talk about it.

Drifting from the conversation, he said, “I called AY that Easter Sunday is my day and he cut the call on me”.

He added, “. Basketmouth and AY they quarrel say 30,000, it depends. Maybe because Basketmouth is upset at another thing, but he didn’t bring it clearly”.

Recall that in 2006, when AY was still single and struggling to support himself, he reminisced in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. He claimed that he filled in for Basketmouth at a function, but he never was paid the thirty thousand Naira (at the time, equivalent to gold). Click here to read more. He also described how Basketmouth's wedding left him feeling ashamed and degraded. He claimed to have gone to his own wedding with his wife but was astonished when he was turned away because his name wasn't on the list of attendees.

He went on to say that because Basketmouth was there, his name will be banned from events. Basketmouth, though, had a different viewpoint to share.

Basketmouth revealed what happened between himself and AY on a podcast with the Honest Bunch team that led to the end of their friendship. He never claimed to be friends with AY, and neither did they ever have a close or intimate contact with him, according to Basket Mouth. He also admitted that he had never coached AY before but had met him through comic king Ali Baba. The dispute between Basketmouth and AY, according to Basketmouth, concerned something else that he won't talk about and that none of their clients were affected. The father of three claimed that AY was lying to publicize his next performance, saying that this is his custom.

Yet Basketmouth was wrong, as evidenced by an old photo in which the two well-known comedians were seen posing together.
