Musician Burna Boy lashes out at Nigerians who are criticizing him for his silence about the 2023 election.

Award-winning Afrobeats musician Burna Boy has reacted angrily to Nigerians who have criticized him for remaining silent about political matters in that country. Burna Boy eventually broke his quiet and voiced his opinion after receiving criticism from Nigerians for his silence on election-related issues. Burna Boy used his Instagram story to call on the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to run the election honestly and thwart any attempts to rig the results in light of the widespread election scandals in Nigeria. Burna Boy continued by highlighting the need for the electoral body to make sure that the Nigerian people are given the freedom to select their favorite presidential candidate free from outside interference. His tweet did not, however, win him back the favor of Nigerians, who accused him of only raising social issues when they pleased him.

Many people observed that the artist frequently discusses the country's social problems in his songs but is never outspoken about them. In response, Burna Boy reiterated that he will not participate in the electoral process since he is not looking for approval from Nigerians. He asserts that he was assigned to a political position and refuted reports that he had accepted cash, a house, or property from politicians or governors. All of Burna Boy's good efforts for his country, he pledged, came from his hearts, wallet, time, and emotions.

“I’ve never made money from any Nigerian government and I never took any house, land or money from any governor. I’ve never been appointed into any public office and I never intended to be. All the good I do for my country comes from my heart, pickets, time and emotions. It’s not for social media validation and it’s definitely not because I owe anybody. I say I nor vote. Make everybody getat”.
