Traders and customers who do not have PVC are barred from entering the Alaba International Market.

On Thursday, the famed Alaba International Market in Lagos was closed to shoppers and sellers who did not have a Permanent Voters Card (PVC). The management ordered that dealers and clients who did not have PVCs be barred from entering the market. People who did not have their voters card were prohibited from entering Alaba, which is usually bustling, on Thursday, and the gate was sealed to ensure no one violated the mandate.

A video circulating on social media showed several men inside the gate checking to see if customers had their cards before allowing them inside the market. Similarly, last year, all shops were locked to allow people to register and pick up their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
