Pastor E.A. Adeboye mourns over Prof. Aboaba's death

One of the people closest to Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Prof. Fola Aboaba passed away. After a brief illness, he passed away in Lagos on Saturday, January 21, about 47 days before his 90th birthday. A group of three people that were close to Pastor Adeboye included Professor Aboaba. Elder Felix Ohiwerei and Mr. Simeon Olakunrin (SAN) are the other two. Prof. Aboaba presided frequently at RCCG Holy Ghost Nights until he passed away. On these instances, he acted as the one who called Pastor Adeboye to the pulpit so he could preach. Additionally, he used to sing unique songs to honor Pastor Adeboye's birthday.

He served as the Redeemer's University's first provost and chairman of the governing council. Aboaba, an emeritus professor of agricultural engineering, served as chairman of the church's technical advisory board and lands committee in addition to serving on the board of trustees of the RCCG. One of the architects of the National Prayer Movement was Prof. Aboaba.

In a statement announcing his passing on Monday, the RCCG leadership praised the late Aboaba for his ardent service to God in a variety of roles and described him as a renowned elder and trustee of the church.

“Prof. Aboaba served God passionately in various capacities and made a significant contribution to the work of God in the RCCG. He spearheaded the activities that led to the birth of The Redeemer’s University and served as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution,” the statement signed by Pastor Oladele Balogun, special assistant Pastor Adeboye, read.

The church claims that Aboaba served as the Chairman of the Technical Advisory Board and Lands Committee of the Mission as well as a member of the Annual Holy Ghost Congress Planning Committee.

“As a Church, we are grateful to God for the opportunity so graciously granted him to serve God and to be a blessing to humanity. Pastor Fola Aboaba was a Professor of Agricultural Engineering and a Professor Emeritus at the University of Ibadan.

“We commiserate with the family he left behind and, we pray that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss,” the church added.

Aboaba's Christian wake is scheduled for February 7, and his burial is scheduled for February 8.
