The Nigeria Coalition of Pastors for Good Leaders, which supported Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, has been denounced by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. On Thursday, Bishop Don Daniel, the deputy national chairman, told reporters in Lagos that coalition members had the freedom to support whatever candidate they wanted, adding that it had nothing to do with PFN. He declared, "The pastors' support for Tinubu does not alter the CAN's collective position in favor of viable candidates. We continue to adhere to the agreement and injunction that CAN issued. No one is a member of CAN. They did so voluntarily, as is the right of everyone else.\“They cannot force anybody to follow them to do what they have decided to do. So if they said they had endorsed a candidate, that is purely their own doing. Everybody has a right and choice of who they want to vote for. It has nothing to do with us.”
Additionally, Daniel reaffirmed PFN's stance on the Muslim-Muslim ticket, stating that it has not altered.
We haven't changed our position since we're still a part of CAN, and we continue to disapprove of the Muslim-Muslim ticket. We think the church has the power to choose trustworthy and capable candidates. And as you are aware, our president recently held a news conference where he made it clear that we are searching for individuals to advance the nation. And we will support a Muslim if he is credible in leading the country forward. The Muslim-Muslim ticket caused the church to frown, but it is not a dead end, and we are still praying. We haven't been able to come up with anything concrete or particular to suggest that this is the candidate that everyone should support. There are still around three months till the election. Who knows if the church, working with CAN, will be able to find a solution. But our position has not changed. Daniel, however, made it clear that the meeting he had with Tinubu was just that—a meeting—and not, as had been suggested, an endorsement. The cleric advised Nigerians to exercise civic duty by obtaining their PVCs and to be prepared tactically to elect reputable leaders who would advance the nation and bring the country together on all fronts. He also revealed that the fellowship traveled to the states of Bayelsa and Kogi to provide aid to flood victims in an effort to lessen their suffering. Shimon Ben-Shoshan, the Israeli ambassador to Nigeria, paid a courtesy visit to the fellowship's offices, where they had a talk about immigration and agriculture, he continued.
