The sale of drinks in plastic bottles that are exposed to sunlight is set to be outlawed by the Lagos State Government.
Mr. Afolabi Solebo, the General Manager of the Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), made the disclosure.
According to Solebo, the decision was made because plastic drinks bottled in sunlight are extremely cancerous and harmful to health.He also said that there are plans to run a campaign to educate the public.
He added,
Drinks in plastic bottles that are exposed to continuous sunlight are extremely cancerous and harmful to health.As a result, it will be a part of our public education from now until the end of the year.
“So that by 2023, we will not only confiscate these beverages but also prosecute those who display them in sunlight.
"We also want to hold a meeting of stakeholders with the people who make those bottled drinks so that we can find alternatives for the dummy products that distributors can display.
The purpose of displaying those items in the sunlight is to entice customers to purchase them.Because dummies resemble the real thing, it is not necessary to expose them to the sun.
Solebo advised customers to avoid consumables that kill bit-by-bit in addition to advising them to always ensure they get value for their money on all products and services.

"Also, they have the right to consumer education and, particularly, the right to seek redress in court or in our office, and when we are unable to resolve the matter amicably, we resort to litigation," the statement reads.
