IPAC criticizes ADP for replacing Kano's governor candidate

The Action Democratic Party's national chairman has come under fire from the Kano State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council for being "unscrupulous" in not keeping the commitments he made to the party's state governorship candidate, Nasiriu Koguna, who withdrew his name from consideration. Salisu Umar, the State IPAC chairman, expressed his disgust in a statement, a copy of which was made accessible to social media. Koguna participated in and won a primary election by receiving the unanimity of support from the 748 qualified delegates, according to the statement, which was also signed by representatives of 14 of the 18 registered political parties. His name was sent to INEC, where it was published appropriately. The national chairman of the Party approached Koguna and convinced him to withdraw his candidacy, the statement claims, after the nomination and publication of his name as the ADP's candidate for governor of Kano State. He was urged to leave his position as the Party's Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate in order to make room for Hon. Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada, a member of the House of Representatives, to run for governor of Kano on the ADP ticket.

The National Chairman of the Party's suggestion to Nasiru Koguna is conditional on him keeping a few pledges and the party upholding a gentleman's agreement. Nasiru Koguna "consented in good faith to prepare the way as requested by the party's National Chairman as a chance to strengthen the Party's control inside the Kano political arena based on the promises made to Nasiru Koguna." Koguna had no choice but to file a lawsuit against the party and its national leadership in order to save his prestigious candidacy, according to IPAC, which stated that after he granted his approval, none of the pledges or agreements made to him had been followed or fulfilled. The statement stated, "Based on the foregoing snafu, the IPAC loudly criticized the attitude of the ADP Kano State and the National Chairman of the Party for being so unscrupulous in not keeping the commitments they made to Nasiru Koguna. In order to maintain political peace, stability, and a cordial relationship among the state's political parties, the council asked the parties concerned to ensure a peaceful resolution of the disagreement.
