How Ikpeazu's wife saved a widow who was persecuted for practicing witchcraft

Nkechi Ikpeazu, the wife of Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia State, saved Mrs. Amarachi Okechi, a widow who had been severely attacked in the Umueghu Amaegbuato community over accusations of witchcraft. Ikpeazu's chief press secretary, Mr. Chika Ojiegbe, made this disclosure on Monday while speaking to journalists in Umuahia about the unfortunate situation. According to information obtained by The News Agency of Nigeria, Okechi was brutally spanked and held captive for several days after being accused of being a witch by her husband's family. The First Lady acted quickly to save the woman after learning about it on Sunday night, according to Ojiegbe. "Recovering her alive was the first thing that needed to be done, and it was done with the help of many stakeholders.

The woman has also been transported to an unnamed public hospital for treatment. "The following step will be to deal with the problems created by the situation. He said that Ikpeazu will pay for her medical care and warned, "The matter would be properly monitored." Ojiegbe claimed that members of the rescue squad came from the Office of the Governor's Wife's Gender-Based Violence Resource Centre. He said the accusations of witchcraft were against the country's laws. He claims that it is established law that no one may enforce jungle justice by enforcing the law themselves. "The law will take its course in this situation. "Ikpeazu will keep working to stop and lessen such violence towards people. In particular in rural places, "she will continue to sensitize the people against such dangerous cultural practices," Ojiegbe stated. He added that instances of this nature were not acceptable in the state.

The Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, he claimed, had been domesticated and was being put into effect in Abia. Additionally, Ojiegbe stated that attempts were being made to have the House of Assembly domesticate the Prohibition Bill, the Equal Opportunities Bill, the Child Rights Bill, the Disability Bill, and numerous other rights bills. SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the state's police public relations officer, stated that the issue had been taken to the leadership. Ogbonna stated that although a thorough investigation had been launched by the command, no arrests had yet been made.
