Craftsman claims Rivers police assaulted him and demands retribution.

Promise Nwosi, an iron bender, claims that members of the Rivers State Police Command's Anti-cultism Unit assaulted him for refusing to catch a man who escaped their grasp as they were pursuing him along SARS Road in Rukpokwu, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Nwosi, who had injuries and a swollen face, sobbed as he described the incident to news reporters in Port Harcourt. The man claimed that on Thursday morning, as soon as he left his house to go to work at an estate along SARS road, police officers on the hunt for a suspect approached him and began hitting him. Nwosi claimed that after the fleeing man raced past him, the officers accosted him for not catching him.

"This morning, I went to work. Rain was falling. I went to get my hair cut as a result. When I was finished, I left the barbershop to purchase a recharge card. "I began to hear cries of "catch him, catch him. I noticed someone being pursued by the anti-cult as I turned to look outside. The youngster simply ran by. "The man (an officer) approached me where I was standing and inquired as to why I was unable to seize the target of their pursuit. "I replied that I had no idea what had happened when I arrived to purchase a card.

He began to beat me. I was able to explain what I did. He claimed that I resisted helping them apprehend their target. I proclaimed my ignorance of the situation. "They shot me in the body and eye with a gun. Even worse, my teeth are hurting. I didn't hurt anybody," he claimed. The distressed man claimed that after reporting the incident to the team's leader, the officer threw him a N1,000 note and told him to go get help. He also claimed that his smartphone was stolen while he was being beaten up.

Nwosi insisted on justice and stated that he wanted the policeman to be named and brought to justice, pointing out that he was experiencing aches all over his body. When reached, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police command, enquired as to whether the man had reported the event to the police. However, she promised to get back to our journalist after speaking with the anti-cult unit commander. Iringe-Koko had not yet provided response as of the time this report was filed.
