Okowa got a N150 billion loan: Omo-Agege reports.

Despite Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa's valiant efforts to refute claims that he obtained a N150 billion loan from a bank, Senate Deputy President Ovie Omo-Agege yesterday joined the chorus of people accusing Okowa of acquiring the credit from a bank.

Mr. Aruviere Martin Egharhevwa, Omo-Executive Agege's Assistant, stated the governor was perplexed as to why the governor took the loan so quickly in anticipation of "petroleum subsidy payment/refund."

"Are they not preparing the foundation for the future administration to deal with unreasonably large debts?" he wondered. Why is the government doing this now, knowing that the repayment monies may not be available until 2027/2028? Is the N150 billion a 2023 'election war chest,' as some observers have speculated? If this is the case, we have no choice but to take action.

"While we recognise that borrowing is sometimes necessary in public finance management, particularly in relation to massive infrastructure projects, we also feel that such borrowing must be prudent and not driven by corruption or corporate interests." It shouldn't only be about burying entire generations in insurmountable debts in the name of getting improbable electoral outcomes. However, some Deltans, led by the Deltan Lives Matter coalition, believe the governor should be allowed to borrow the loan and spend it wisely.

"Without a doubt, the N150 billion loan granted by the House of Assembly is a continuation of the Okowa administration's extremely corrupt trend of reckless borrowing to fund mystery projects, or what Deltans now refer to as 'audio' or invisible projects."

The body's coordinator, Christian Moses Abeh, urged Okowa's critics to "stop playing politics with things," claiming that the "money is for the state's good."

"The administration would be judicious in using it to fund projects around the state to improve people's living standards and pay pensions," Abeh said.
