Despite ASUU strike, Minister of Education obtained 100M naira presidential form

Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the Minister of State for Education, has gotten copies of the APC's Nomination and Expression of Interest forms in order to run for President.

On Wednesday in Abuja, he purchased the form, becoming the first of several contenders to do so.

The Minister of State reportedly obtained both forms with monies contributed by a group of Nigerians,

However, the announcement comes amid mounting concerns over what will happen to ministers who want to run for public office if Section 84 is enacted (12).

Buhari's ministers contesting for Electoral seats must retire from their existing positions before the APC primary elections on May 30 and June 1, 2022, according to section 84(12) of the recently adopted Electoral Act 2022.

Nwajiuba isn't the only minister on the list; Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, as well as other Presidential appointees, are running for other federal and state positions. The minister's purchase of the form comes at a time when the country's tertiary education is being crippled by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)'s ongoing strike action.
